Synthetic lubricants are better than mineral oil in the end where?
We all know that synthetic oil is certainly better than mineral oil, but where it is good, is not very understandable, the next to bring you a few significant advantages of synthetic lubricants, and this advantage is generally high quality mineral oil can not be compared.
01
Improved anti-wear protection
Viscosity is one of the most important physical property requirements when selecting a suitable lubricant, and the selection of an inappropriate viscosity oil will result in rapid wear and low performance.
Synthetic lubricants have an inherently high viscosity index, which provides a low viscosity lubricant for low-temperature operating conditions during start-up of machinery and equipment. When equipment reaches high temperatures during normal operation, the viscosity can be maintained at a thicker consistency to effectively protect the equipment. Because synthetic oils are born with these high and low temperature characteristics, and do not require additional viscosity index improvers to help, their shear stability is also particularly good.
02
Reduces Scale Formation
Lubricants are subject to oxidation during use, especially when catalyzed by oxygen, which is accelerated by elevated temperatures.
Synthetic lubricants are far more resistant to oxidation than mineral oils. Synthetic lubricants are inherently more stable to high temperatures and oxidation, which clearly extends service life and oil change intervals to reduce warranty time and costs.
03
Improved Low Temperature Flow Characteristics
The excellent low-temperature flow properties of lubricants provide rapid and efficient lubricant circulation, which protects critical operating components and extends equipment life.
In engines and machinery, the pour point of synthetic lubricants facilitates quick cold starts and minimizes metal-to-metal contact and wear by reaching the lubrication point in the shortest possible time. Components are protected by fast lubrication, reducing the risk of under-lubrication and extending service life.
04
No special system design required
Synthetic PAOs are compatible with mineral oils and oil seals, eliminating the need for special lubrication system design. Synthetic lubricants with PAOs as base oils have excellent compatibility with mineral lubricants, so when synthetic PAOs are used to replace mineral oils to cope with severe lubrication tests, the original equipment seals and paints can continue to function without worrying about leakage and corrosion.
However, in order to ensure that the original synthetic lubricant has the best characteristics, a thorough flushing system is still the best practice when converting from mineral to synthetic oils. In general, incomplete flushing will not cause deterioration of synthetic lubricants.
05
Extended Service Life
Synthetic oils have a longer service life and will still last three to five times longer than the best mineral oils when subjected to temperatures. Under extreme high and low temperature operating conditions, synthetic lubricants can easily achieve three or even five times the life of mineral oils.
This reduces the need for oil and filter changes, reduces the amount of waste oil produced and reduces the amount of lubricant replenishment. Fuel economy improvements can also be calculated from the operation of the engine.
